Default American Pharoah Tops My Logic

In November of last year I wrote an article on why I wouldn't be betting on American Pharoah to win the Kentucky Derby, mostly based on his distaff family being weak and that he wouldn't get the distance. And I was proven wrong, I should have bet on him. Yesterday I learned that a vastly talented horse can overcome a questionable pedigree and Kentucky Derby rules (Storm Cat angle) and win the race. Great talent trumped pedigree. Congratulations to Two Year Old and Kentucky Derby Champion, American Pharoah.

I get your point but just like "there's no crying in baseball", "there's no logic in horse racing". And I love it when "The Storm Cat Principle" is shot down in the Derby and other "bigs" beyond, especially on the dame side.

I believe he's three. In fact three and three months.

very few horses are bred to be more effective 9f's today. Save a few they all are about the same. After they have run on both surfaces, assuming they try both, I pitch pedigree bias in my handicapping. What's the point of infusing bias after they have run? The horse own at 9f's in a cantor how 1 more furlong was going to be problematic because Yankee Gentleman is widely thought of as a speed influence is beyond my skill set.

They breed them for the sales ring. Gotta be muscles everywhere for a sales buyer to pay attention. Distance types don't muscle up so fast, so their sires and dams are now improving bloodlines everywhere from Turkey to Korea.

Was he tested though today? Visually and numbers wise it still appeared to be easy for him. Horse runs well never appears to be swimming and every action is like poetry in motion

He's probably bred more for 9 furlongs. He was just better than all the others, the way the race shaped. I don't know how he would do in the B, but the P should be no trouble.
