Default Vet Scratch?

I know that the knowledge on this board can help me with this. If I'm playing a horse and he gets scratched and they list it as a vet scratch, is that a big negative? Often this happens and the horse is re-entered a week later. How should I feel about this? Is the horse playable if he looks well placed? Thanks in advance for any insight.

It's very tough to gauge without knowing the particulars of the reason the horse was scratched. That information would be very helpful if provided to the public.

As it is, I think you have to use context clues to better estimate the meaning of a vet scratch. Is the horse turning around quickly and stepping up in class from the race he was scratched out of? In that case, I'm inclined to de-emphasize it. But was he a vet scratch out of a stronger race and then kept in jail so they could drop him? That's likely a bad sign.

Thank you for the information. I guess it's just another reason for people to call this game gambling and not investing.
