Default Cashing Winning Tickets

When is the last day to cash winning tickets for 2015?

I had a winning ticket from Santa Anita I made at Evangeline Downs on June 5th. I mailed them my ticket last week and I was told it could not be cashed because it was 90 days after the Santa Anita 2015 Spring Meet ended. Of course there is nothing written on the ticket or website with these rules.

My understanding is that you can still cash tickets till April 15th the following year. Am I right about this?

Thanks for your help

Depends on the jurisdiction. Most are by end of first quarter or 2nd quarter of the following year. Check rules/regs pages. Santa Anita mentions it in lower right: http://www.santaanita.com/discover/contact-us/

California extends to May 15 following the year the race meet ended.. But why would you mail it to Santa Anita? They aren't responsible for a ticket you bought at EvD.

No, I mailed it to EvD and they called me saying it was "purged" because the Santa Anita 2015 meet ended more than 90 days ago so I get nothing. I could not see such rules on the website nor was it written on the ticket.

Ugh.. I see. So it was stymied by the account rectification between the simo partners. That's an interesting topic actually and I'll address it on air with appropriate types. Hope it wasn't too big a winner..

Thanks Steve!

I called the Louisiana Racing Commission Legal department. They could not provide me the appropriate number in the rule book and told me to look it up myself yet she knew for sure that the 90 day rule applies in the State.

I was told to talk to Lynette Bailey in Evangeline Downs next.

It was a trifecta worth 192 dollars

I looked up the rules in the Louisiana rules of racing under the Wagering
on Page 92 http://horseracing.louisiana.gov/doc...RacingBook.pdf

§12341. Pari-Mutuel Tickets
B. All off-track wagering, guest and host facilities shall,
upon request, cash all pari-mutuel tickets purchased at its
facility during all hours of operation within the guidelines
provided for under R.S. 4:176 and R.S. 4:219

in reference to R.S. 4:176 and R.S. 4:219:
http://law.justia.com/codes/louisian...tle-4/rs-4-219

A. All pari-mutuel tickets purchased at offtrack wagering facilities licensed pursuant to this Part evidencing the right to participate in pari-mutuel pools or the right to a refund must be presented for payment within ninety days after the close of the race meeting of the host track. The failure to present such a ticket within the prescribed time shall constitute a waiver of the right to participate in the pari-mutuel pool or the right to a refund. Thereafter, the holder of such ticket shall have no right to enforce payment thereof.

Lesson learned on my part. It was a ticket worth $192 on a Trifecta. I am told that there are signs posted at the track that warn patrons to cash thier tickets within 90 days. I do not recall seeing such signs but maybe other members in this forum can confirm this for me.

A good thing to do is turn them into vouchers if you can. They last longer.

I got a call from Evangeline Downs today and based on my unfortunate outcome and my suggestion, they will start printing the 90 day rule on all tickets and post it at the betting facility.

Even though I could not cash my ticket, they have offered to comp me dinner next time in LA

Well, at least that's something. I can imagine how aggravating missing the deadline must have been to you. I can accept thousand dollar losses just fine if I think I played the game correctly (blackjack or video poker, for example), but if I lose $100 due to a blunder, it'll tick me off hugely.

This would be my second time missing out on an uncashed winning ticket. The other time was when i was 11, my mom washed my pants that had a $12 winning ticket that turned to pulp in the washing machine.

Well, even if you're just 21 now, one blunder a decade is an acceptable error rate!
