Default Gann-Frankel Appear to Split..

Edmund Gann, who together with Bobby Frankel campaigned such stalwarts as Medaglio d'Oro and Midas Eyes, has apparantly pulled his horses from the trainer in the past week according to sources on the West Coast.

John Sadler appears to have received several of the Gann horses in California in the last few days.

More details as they emerge..

Bold..

You're right.. Seafree yesterday at SA in the nightcap.. Info centers on a number of horses that appear to have gone to Sadler. As mentioned, more details to follow. Could be a split-split.. could be a partial-split.. could be no split.. That's why I say "apparently has pulled".

Its tough to win when you never race. Maybe the owner got fed up with the "5 times a year" mentality.

"Frankel estimated he also has sold approximately $35 million worth of horses for Gann over the years"

I guess its the final few millions of the tally that lead to this

Default Gann and Frankel spilt

Gann is sending all of his stock to John Sadler. This is very surpising to me based on the immense success those two have enjoyed together over the past 4-5 years. Frankly, Edmund Gann was the most successful owner in horse racing the last 5 years in terms of one that I can definately think of that won many top races and ACTUALLY WAS ABLE TO SHOW A PROFIT ON THE BOTTOMLINE at year's end.

It seems like everything Mark Reid and Frankel acquired for him turned to gold.....Medalgia d' Oro, Peace Rules, You, Midas Eyes, Personal Legend, Seafree, etc....the list is VERY impressive of the good horses he owned relative to the number of horses he owned.

It makes you wonder what the story is behind this. The obvious pops up in your mind, but I guess we'll hear both versions of the story eventually.

Mike, do you have any idea what happened here?

Regardless of what may have happened here, Gann is probably going to really be in shock if he expects to have the same level of success going from Frankel to Sadler and from Reid, who I respect as probably the best bloodstock scout in the country, picking out his horses to whoever does going forward.

I know this:

If I had big-time cash and I wanted to be an owner in this sport at that level I would employ Reid for his services in a heart beat....the success is too great to ignore.

I guess this opens the door up for another big owner to be at the top of the list for him, and whoever that owner is I would like to know so that I can pay attention when those horses run - because Frankel and Reid WILL have success with someone elses' money.

If I'm Ahmad Zayat right now, I would call this guy ASAP....

Mark's already friendly with Ahmed.
I think there may be more to the story Joel.

As it happens, word of this broke last week when Sadler asked for an additional half barnful of stalls. Decorum prevented it from being disseminated before today.

I have heard a couple of rumblings about Cali trainers wanting to move their horses east to run on dirt. On the flipside, the owners are wanting them to stay in Cali to run on PolyTrack. I wonder if this was a deal breaker between the two or if it was just an ingredient to the overall split. It is sad to see these two split because they had so much success. I wish both parties continued success.

Since Frankel keeps divisions on both coasts its absolutely got nothing to do with it.
