![]() Wouldn't it be more punitive if they were forced to serve this suspension next year at Saratoga instead at the beginning of the Belmont meet where not much is happening big stakes wise

![]() Grening: Jose Ortiz will try to add the Belmont fall riding title to his list of accomplishments in 2016, which include his first riding titles at Saratoga and Belmont’s spring-summer meet as well as the Aqueduct winter and spring riding titles.
However, both he and his brother Irad Ortiz Jr. will be serving careless-riding suspensions to start the meet. Jose Ortiz will make his Belmont debut next Wednesday, Irad on Sept. 16.

Is it up to the stewards or the jocks? I would think that the best policy would be having to serve the days within 5 days of the suspension coming down.

![]() It's a suspension right. You get days, you serve them . Usually as soon as you are suspended.....in most walks of life. To wait a year is ridiculous

![]() So then it's no holds barred during the end of a big money meet trying to get the big purses. No incentive to bend the rules there

![]() I could be wrong and Steve will know, but I believe the game that is played is filing an appeal which stays the suspension until the appeal is heard and then withdrawing the appeal when the rider wants to be suspended before the appeal is heard.
