Default Scorpion

I know the Turf looks like a Hurricane Run-Cacique showdown, but what do folks think about Scorpion? If he runs somewhere close to his best, he definitely belongs in this group.

P.S. I know Kev will kill me for dismissing English Channel, but really, if Hurricane Run doesn't win this race, I think it'd be mildly surprising.

I'm with Slot on HR... he's definitely the class in the field IMO. I still look for English Channel to come out on top, though.

If the turf is anything but firm I could see Hurricane Run winning. Cacique and EC i dont think mind it little soft but still gives Hurricane Run an advantage. If the turf is firm its a 2 horse race-- Cacique and EC with Cacique def better

Scorpion has a great chance to hit the ticket 3rd or 4th tho

I think all the euros will badly need a truly run race. Scorpion and Red Rocks both ran in the Leger over 14+F, while Hurricane Run needs an age to get into top gear and will really need some quick fractions. If this doesnt happen, the euros are in trouble!!

You really think so, Brock? American trained horses have won this race so infrequently lately - at least so it seems - that I just can't see how English Channel at his best could beat the Euros at their best, particularly Hurricane Run.

Well I think the main US horses are really 10f horses and may use that speed to their advantage.. The euro hopes need every yard of 12f, with Red Rocks IMO having the best turn of speed.. before his 3rd in the Leger his 2 2nds look very decent now after Rail Link and Youmzain's G1 wins.. I like him at the price! Hurricane Run is obviously the most threatening euro but 2 runs in just over a month?? Plus the fact that he is eeriely following in his sire's footsteps puts me off!

it will be like shake the bank last year, because of the coupling rules in the BC (like the Derby). It just seems unfair. I mean, anyone who bets on shake the bank is not educated enough about racing to understand what's going on or what sacrifical purpose he served.

it just seems unfair to let money be burned like that. even at 81-1, on BC day that is a lot of money. a bet on him was like just throwing money away -- i can't believe they let people do that.

I'm all for letting people throw away their money to help my cause. If they don't care enough to look at the Form and are just betting on random things then they deserve to lose on the occassions where they pick a rabbit. I've had plenty of days where I've spent tons of time capping the race and lost a bet just to hear some lady say she just hit the 2-1-3 trifecta because her grandson's birthday is February 13th. I think the best was when the dual rabbit Dutrow entry went off at like 12-1.
