King Carlos Figueroa RIP
The king of the fairs, Carlos Figueroa had passed away at the age of 88. One of the most colorful characters on the backside in New England for many moons. A kind and gracious man had real style. If you have ever seen let it ride, he looked like the character played by the guy who played Roman Moronie in johnny dangerously. . I will never forget him helping my dad make it to the winners circle for the last winner we ever ran. It was pouring rain and we beat him in the race. He was old too, but that's the kind of guy he was. Rest In Peace

Figueroa remembered today on ATR with Michael Blowen, Jimmy Pambianchi, John Morrissey and Carlos himself, from a riotous 2013 call in..
What is not appreciated in the haze of his freewheeling, larger than life persona is what an incredibly gifted and generous horseman he was. In addition to the guests for Wednesday, heard yesterday from Tim Ritvo, Mikey Aro, Paul Matties and Lou Raffetto who all referenced his abilities with a horse. While it's been well reported that Figueroa bought Shannon's Hope for $60, likely off Bruce Smith, it should be added that he purchased many runners for similar amounts right off the killers' trucks and resurrected them into healthy, dappled winners. He also gave countless humans their start in the game. A one of a kind guy that won't come around again.

I knew the King from the New England circuit. He was quite the character but a wonderful human being.
