Default Belmont Cancels today Sunday

I’m not sure who is more pathetic, the jockeys, or the NYRA knuckleheads for allowing it. Oh it might rain and be windy ....oh poor us.

This forecast calls for SE winds to 40mph throughout the afternoon with gusts to 60mph starting around 5pm-6pm. Estimated rainfall is 2"-4". Trying to rush through the card by 3:30pm-4:00pm makes absolutely no sense.

What happens to the carryover ? Rushing through the card makes plenty of sense

Apparently NYRA has requested permission from the Gaming Commission to offer the carryover money on opening day at Aqueduct. If permission is denied it will be held until opening day of the 2018 Belmont spring meet.

The July 22nd revised rules published by NYRA stated the following.

If there is only one surface transfer in the sequence of the Pick 5 and/or Pick 6, previous days' carryovers are to be paid out. If more than one, then any previous carryover shall be carried over to the next day of the meet for the wager. Advertised guaranteed amounts for the Pick 6 are only paid out if there is a maximum of one surface transfer.

Now, clearly there is a logical hole here with the "next day of the meet" concept. So, there are two logic options : [1] Have a mandatory payout at the next NYRA meet date (Aqueduct, Friday) ... or ... [2] Hold that cash until next Spring with a mandatory payout on Belmont's opening day (April 2018).

Seems reasonable that Option [1] will be followed.

Imagine the folks who handicapped the carryover, woke up and went to mass, got home , watched the 3 stooges and were ready for racing from Belmont Park only to find out that it was gonna rain and be windy so there was no racing. Winter racing is gonna be fun.

Winter racing at Aqueduct this year (2017-2018) will probably be better than any of the last 20+ years now that everything will be run on the newly designed main track. Dirt distances including 6.5f and 7f are now in play along with one turn miles.

As for having handicapped a whole program, you can reuse the stakes for next weekend. But sure, let's throw some horses and jockeys on the track moving at 35mph into wind gusts of 40mph. That is not being a fan of the sport.

Best team in the league VS one of the worst. Good call.

Belmont cancellation was done early, around 9:30 AM to the public notice. Well done, last day of meet. Wet, bad weather likely. Mess. Early notice was great. Fans all know, trainers all know, no Lasix shots, crews can go home for afternoon, all racing people can stay home. Good decision and done well today.

Confirmed that the Pick 6 carryover will be a mandatory payout on Friday, opening day at Aqueduct.

No mention of how the weather didn’t get bad till after the card would have been over. They blew it completely by listening to erroneous weather forecast. No reason they couldn’t have run, but no one acknowledged this.

It’s funny how they could just move a whole pool of money to a different track ...but the breeders cup can’t have a low takeout pick 5 on 5 breeders cup races.

If you told this stuff to a mule, he’d kick you.

The weather was crazy on Long Island from 3:30pm onwards with winds in excess of 40 mph. I know - I was there. Gusts which are unpredictable were in excess of 50 mph towards New York City and 65+ mph over Suffolk County. The New York Gaming Commission authorized the carryover move to Aqueduct. The Breeder's Cup has nothing to do with this. Cannot understand why you are having such a difficult time with this.

I live here not in Alabama or whatever state you live in. The weather was horrid and by 2pm it was blowing hard and pouring. Go check the Songbird photo again. She sells in a few days and I am sure they would really like your input

They should never cancel racing until at least three jockeys have been blown off the horses, and at least one them drowns on the track.

Wimps.
