Venue for August 10 - Arlington

It should come as no surprise that we will be going to Arlington Park this Saturday for Arlington Million Day. The three Grade 1 races (the Million, the Beverly D and the Secretariat) were drawn on Tuesday and look like a showdown between the Chad Brown and Aidan O'Brien stables. The remainder of the card will be drawn early this afternoon. I'll post the full particulars of our contest schedule once that has been announced.

The cost of just about everything has inflated dramatically since John Henry won the inaugural Arlington Million in 1981. Yet the Million is still run for a million. Not a purse to sneeze at, but today there are quite a few races with purses that equal or exceed that. But the race has still drawn Bricks and Mortar, perhaps the best turf horse in the country, last year's winner in Robert Bruce, plus Hunting Horn and Magic Wand from the Coolmore stable and an intriguing entry in Pivoine, the Diamond Jubilee winner.

The Beverly D includes Chad Brown's Sistercharlie, along with Competitionofideas and Thais, who will battle O'Brien's Fleeting and the cross-entered Magic Wand. The Secretariat also has a Brown v. O'Brien matchup, with Chad entering Fog of War and Valid Point and Aiden sending out Never No More and Van Beethoven. There are some others who should have a say in the outcome, including Faraway Kitten, who should not be too faraway at the wire.

With that kind of star power in the feature races, I can live with what might be some rather bland offerings on the undercard.

I believe that NBC will have network coverage of the Million on Saturday afternoon at 5:00 Eastern.

Entries are now available for the whole card. The quality of the card is clearly at the back end, with much less quality in the early part than I would expect on the track's biggest day of the year. Perhaps that speaks volumes about Illinois racing.

I don't think that any of us will grieve over omitting the first two races, a couple of 5 1/2 furlong all-weather track races for maiden 2 year olds, most of whom have yet to race.

We will be starting with Race 3 and doing the rest of the 12 race card, ending with the Grade 3 Pucker Up. The scheduled post time for race 3 will be 1:21 PM Central time.

I had previously posted that NBC would provide network coverage of the Million. That is probably incorrect, as the time for the Beverly D will be 4:53 Central and the Million will be 6:12 Central, while the NBC coverage will be too early for them. I think you can find live coverage on Fox Sports 2.

I have a proposition for you. If Fox Sports 2 does not provide coverage of the Million around 6:12 Central on Saturday, you have my permission to shout "NOPE" in as large a font as your computer will allow and I will don a dunce cap. I don't think you will have that opportunity.

Fox Sports 2 has coverage on Saturday from 2:30 to 5:00 Eastern and then again from 6:00 to 7:30 Eastern. Both are called "Saratoga Live". The time in between is taken by NBC, who will probably cover the Saratoga Special (at 5:11) and the Fourstardave (at 5:46). The final race at Saratoga will be at 6:55.

Why then is Fox Sports 2 continuing Saratoga Live until 7:30? Andy Serling, one of the program's hosts, explained this afternoon that they will be able to provide special coverage of the Million on Saturday in that extended time slot. That was the basis for my observation. I try to do my homework before posting.

other than just Saratoga live @ 2–5:30 MT

if They ARE including Arlington
And they should’ve included in the listing on the guide

We have Comcast also. Unfortunately, different regions of even the same cable provider will have different programming. Hope that yours provides that coverage for you.
