Default Johnny D hits the nail on the head

Tonight on ATRAB, Johnny D. was feeling the effects of what I call the "Breeders Cup hangover". I feel the same. All the hours pouring over the advance PP's. Ranking the horses. Then the final entries/posts are released. So I make further adjustments. After all that I have to choose my betting strategy. Exactas, tri's, supers, P3, P4, P6? Finally it's the friday before the big day. I think I have a pretty good handle on everything. Now it's time for second guessing. Every trainer you listen to or read about says his horse is ready to fire. The pundits chime in with their picks. I loudly dismiss them because dammit, I've spent countless hours crafting my selections and I'm sticking with them hell or high water. Who knows better than me. Now I have to choose a place to watch the event. My favorite gin mill perhaps. No, bad idea. It's football season and there always some guy who wants to watch Boise St. vs. Idaho. Home on the couch it is. Get the cheese, crackers and pepperoni out. All set. Six hours later it's over. Your better half is afraid to ask how I did. I quietly start to get dinner ready. Your eyes meet hers. She asks, "how'd you do?". I say simply "I lost". I almost want to cry. Why? Because I have to wait another year to make my big Breeders Cup score. I tell myself I'm done for the rest of the year. No ATRAB, DRF etc. Start fresh January 1, 2007. Well, as you can tell, it didn't take. It truly is the greatest game.
