Default Monmouth Park's new whip rules

Forgive me if this has been discussed here. But what do you all make of the situation at MP that is developing regarding riders refusing to ride here because of the new whip rules? It seems to me that a very dangerous situation is being set up, not to mention a very unfavorable atmosphere in general. Steve, have you covered this on the show?

I was looking forward to going back to MP this season. I have been a volunteer "ambassador" for a few years, helping people learn to read the Form and understand how to bet, etc. What I see in the future gives me pause. I truly hope we can have a good meet, but...

I don't see myself placing wagers at this track any time soon, Ill watch racing there and throw darts at the "Survival on the Shore" contest but that's about the limit
Wish the jockeys luck and safe rides

I probably won't be betting Monmouth Park...but I also rarely did to begin with.

I think the complaint that the Racing Commission or its staff doesn't have experience with horses is...misguided. I understand the complaint because the commission probably should have gotten feedback from jockeys and others on the rule. Not listening to them is just bad government. But they've made their decision and the question should be how do you get them to reverse it.

I think if trainers, jockeys, etc. really want to change this rule, they need to play the political game and get people with political influence to take up their cause. Now, maybe that is happening. I don't know. There are definitely some powerful people in New Jersey who are sympathetic to the people involved in horse racing. But writing op-eds for horse racing media, complaining on twitter, and so forth, all basically within the closed world of horse racing...I just don't think it will get them very far.

So the no whip thing has been a tremendous failure. Handle is abysmal and the racing is on par with D level tracks.

Cherry on top is in the first today, rider of the $58 winner whipped his mount four times around the turn. No inquiry and race was made official before they even got back to winners circle.

I’m sure he will say the horse was bearing out but how do you know? In this game, the people that fund it get the least amount of protection. Weird how that works.
