Default Oaklawn expands 21-22 racing season

Although approval is still pending, Oaklawn will add racing days beginning Dec 3 this year. Meet will end 5/8/22.

FairGrounds is my home town track. I hate this news, FG will suffer because of it.
They dropped the ball though...when Delta Downs discontinued the Delta Jackpot, FG should have created a big December race for 2yr olds.
They didn't do it, and I bet you Oaklawn does.

Some Churchill runners ship to FG, and many more take a break until Oaklawn opens.
Just my opinion, but I think it's good to give the horses an off season.

I’m in the minority but I don’t get the Oaklawn appeal. No turf and a safe haven for move up trainers.

No thanks

Didn't they just move opening day to late January because of the weather?

Yeah Tom, kinda backtracking that part. They wanted closing day to be KD day all along. Meet primarily will be Fri-Sat-Sun in December and early January. I think they'll get runners from Texas to ship up.

Sam Houston in January...at least it was for 2021...I dont think the formal 2022 schedule has come out but I don't see it changing from that...All QHs after July until January

Okay, like claim a horse from 40 and run him back for 25? Or is it something else?

Trainers that have harnessed the power of the sun or those who identify horses to claim from others that will excel after their vet has a party with them.

No like claim a horse for 25 and turn it into a stakes horse.

IMO Oaklawn is a safe haven for cheating trainers. No surprise Baffert likes shipping there so much.
