Default Circular Quay question

Does anyone know what the name means? And/or how it came about?

Thanks in advance.

You know Hooves, CQ's last two races leave me thinking that too.. But I can easily write off the Polycrap race to him not liking the surface.. As for the BC, he blew past everyone in the field except Street Sense who had a similar trip but took the rail route. If their trips were reversed, I'm still not sure CQ can make up the 10 length difference, but it would likely have been much closer. We'll see how his next few races go.

i saw this horse at Keen and man if it were a beauty contest he would win hands down but i really wonder why everyone thinks he is a late running springer??? i think his race in BC was very impressive would like to see a little more early zip but i really think he will be a force to deal with come spring.

My opinion, if they switch positions CQ wins the race the same exact way

ACtually I think that as the horse come back off those races in the BC, that the horses who rode the incredible rail may not turn out to be what they appeared, and the horses who forced to go wide may just come back ok.
Watched the replays of those races again this past weekend, and noone wide was going anywhere.

My racing form says Circular Quay is not near the colt Street Sense is. In the Keeneland race 'Sense was never near the fence and 'Quay beat him a nostril.

Then in the big race it seemed to me, that at all times 'Sense had a gear in reserve. Quay needs to grow out and up, to be a factor as a 3yo, a big if, and for now is a complete come from behind sprinter. Shame his half brother broke down Sunday and had to be put down. BBB

I agree that the Keeneland race is what is most telling about these two horses. The " he didn't like Polytrack " argument can't be made as Circular Quay ran pretty much the same race he has run every time. He also had an absolutely perfect trip while Street Sense had enormous trouble, both in ground and positional loss early, then extreme ground loss late coupled with a wildly aggressive premature move. Everything about their respective performances says Street Sense is a better horse.

Circular Quay is no bum but he's out of Street Sense's league as of now. My guess is the gap won't be closed but more likely filled by others.

In addition, you also have to keep in mind that two year old form is hard to carry over to a three year old season. We often see two year olds who are dominate because they mature faster and then they flatten out. This gives the appearance that they are not as good as they seem to be. Once "other" horses mature then the gap closes and sometimes the late bloomers pass the mature two year olds. Street and Quay are good two year olds--I will be excited to see if they continue to mature into their 3 year old season.

I think that it is very unlikely we will see Quay in the Derby. I think he will level out and will be left behind.

Where did the classic winner come from? Im not knocking either juvi but some did overcome the bias.

Some did not overcome the bias. One did. If you dont believe that the rail was unfair (and the track in general) and changed the outcome of a lot of the races then I suggest going back and re-watching the races.

I was very disappointed watching the BC this year, the best day in horse racing and Churchill has to **** with it. Instead of having the best horses face each other, it was more of a competition to see who could ride the rail the longest. Churchill did a terrible job in my opinion and I wish that they would face more media scrutiny and criticism.

i don't really follow that. it can be pronounced any of three different ways, and all three are acceptable and proper.
