Wow! Thanks! I knew it was going to be close! Good job, guys.

I think the weather is going to be nasty in the east again this weekend, with the exception of Gulfstream, but I think the best option is to return to Santa Anita for the Cal-bred stakes races. We could work the whole card since a couple of races have small fields.

Let me know what if anyone else has suggestions.

This morning, I see news that there are wildfires in the Arcadia area. I'm not sure what's going to happen with racing. I'm going to dig in a look a little closer to see what I can find. If there's a lot of smoke, they'll probably have to cancel.

It happens every year. Where was the National Guard yesterday?

The Lizard King was there along with other politicians for their photo opps with the hills ablaze behind them.

This state has done nothing to prepare for the inevitable in the almost five decades I've lived here, in the state with the 5th largest stand alone economy where all of the latest tech is born and raised.

AI can't put out a fire.

AND BTW....congrats Alli on the Win!!

I watched it last night on CNN. Amazing that their intrepid reporter and crew was there reporting. Might have been safer in a war zone. They reported that people trying to evacuate the Palisades area in their cars encountered so much traffic, they had to abandon their cars and go on foot. Then when the firetrucks came, they were unable to get around the abandoned cars and had to call in bulldozers to push the cars out of the way. So not only did people lose their homes, but their vehicles too. Tragedy on top of tragedy.

There were fires in San Diego when I lived there...not near my home, but the air was so heavy with smoke it was difficult to breathe. My heart goes out to those folks.

Only one way in and out. The view is fantastic but this is the price for it. Now the hydrants are dry.

The insurance industry crisis in CA has been a dumpster fire for several years and most companies pulled out of Palisades. Those that remain set $3M limits.

Thus the vast majority of these homes are not insured.

Like that in Florida, too. We've had a chunk of natural disasters...earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes. We're at the mercy of mother nature.

They are starting a horse evacuation at SA due to the air quality.

Probably Gulfstream. Fair Grounds has a possible freeze warning tonight, but no indication of that on Saturday. I am guessing that Oaklawn might close. Snow predicted for Thursday and Friday and temps at night will be in the 20s so seems likely track may be frozen on Saturday.

I think you're right, Cal. Let's do races 1-10.

Btw, my anti-virus won't let me access this site. It says the the Derbt Trails site security certificate expired 24 days ago.

Norton was doing the same to me last year....shut it down completely and re-start it....try going proxy after that

back to El Lay....there is still no National Guard ....and it's a loot-a-thon....

I just read Oaklawn canceled Friday Saturday and Sunday due to heavy snow. Take care Cal.

Figured they would. Hopefully, I will be alright. The danger is loss of power when you live in an all-electric home. I could cook on my gas grill, but frigid temps in my house would probably drive me out. Temps down in the low 20s at night will definitely make for some 3 dog nights and unfortunately I have only two and one of them a 4 pound Yorkie that won't provide much heat.

SA is dark today.....tomorrow?

AND the Vikes-Rams Monday playoff game has been moved from SoFi to.....
wait for it.....State Farm Stadium in Phoenix.

State Farm refused to renew a couple thousand in the vicinity.

At the mercy of nature...? And much more.
