very good news. altho the death and burial of this sport is always supposedly just around the corner, increases in purse belie that notion. oaklawn had several increases last year, the ark derby has remained one million dollars. i expect them to have an increase in purses again this year--more than one possibly. that's due to the new gambling machines they installed.

it's a shame tho that the ark derby wasn't granted gr 1 status. maybe next year.

yes, now let's see if they card better weekday races or if it just winds up being a boost for the maiden claimers. From what I read and hear, the slots are successful far above projections. Blue hairs from Boca to Key Biscayne are flocking.

Its a start. All I wanna see are weekday cards that aren't the same as Tampa Bay Downs. Then I will be happy.

The racing at Tampa is getting dangerously close to the quality of racing at Gulfstream. Lots of guys like the Tampa track more as well, its nowhere near as tough on a horse as GSP
