What makes me crackers about this is that the use of evergreen trees around the Winter Solstice go back long before Christianity. I think of the Christmas tree as more of a cultural tradition, brought here by the Hessians. A Jewish friend of mine's mother is German by heritage, and they always had a tree (to the mortification of my friend's father, who would keep the curtains closed all through December so the neighbors wouldn't see).

I can see objecting to a creche, but a Christmas tree? There isn't any religious significance to the tree. Sigh...

We put our tree up last night. Smells soooo good. Adorned with my husband's superhero ornaments and my Breyer Triple Crown Winners ornaments. I think I'm getting the Seattle Slew and Gallant Fox ones this year for Christmas... (fingers crossed)...

Looks like they were just trying to avoid a law suit.
In this day and age, people are very insistant on being "politically correct".
If it was up to me as to how to decorate the airport, I'd order a big pile of sand. String some lights and eight candles, plant an American flag on top, and leave it up year round.
Add eggs, pumpkins, and shamrocks as required.

I think you're right-- I think it was Dave Barry who said "In God We Trust" should be taken off our currency, to be replaced with the REAL American slogan, "I'll Sue!" Sad but true.

Ahh..."In God We Trust", right there on the bills that we see everyday.
Is it just me, or do others see what we've made into our "god"?

No Jerry, you just say things to get attention...don't try and make your attention seeking behavior appear noble...nobody buys it anymore!

Then say that.
You are an embarassment to yourself and to those who have tried to befriend you. I'm ashamed to know you when you act like this.
You are a 26 year old man, now grow up and act like one.

Words from a classic protest song by Phil Ochs..."and heaven only knows in which god they can trust". Modern day America worships at various alters...greed, lust and self-promotion have taken the place of brotherhood and compassion. If someone tries to force their beliefs on me, then I have a legit grievance but why would I take offense at religious artifacts and symbols that bring comfort to others? Folks get so concerned about symbolism that they ignore other's feelings...works both ways of course, Christians should consider the feelings of others, mandatory prayer in schools or forcing a doctrine on others is certainly as wrong as displaying a Confederate flag from a government building...but if a guy has one in his window...who cares?

Somerfrost,
That's an interesting take...and I agree with most of it.
Seems that many believe deeply in their own "god (s)". More than willing to sacrifice others on the altars of their own creation.
Perhaps I simplify too much.
Yet, therein the "problem", the justification, the excuses, self-righteousness, the "offense", everything we all wish others to allow to us that we seek to deny for them.
"Who cares"?
I do.
