Track Time Start Question?
Somebody help me out with this. My track, GLD, runs at about 5 o'clock M T W. I talked to the G.M. recently and he made me understand that they get huge handle on these days because all the bettors at other tracks don't have much to bet on at that time on those days. Makes perfect sense and according to him it is starting to pay off.
The question I have, don't get pissed haters of S-breds, why does not one single harness track run during the day time during the week. I'm thinking one of the very small tracks. I know a ton of guys that are huge harness guys and suck at T-breds that come during the day to the track and try their luck. They know they don't know what the hell they are doing but, most of them can sneak out at that time. If they put any harness track up during the day, these guys would hammer it. I"m sure we all know guys like these!!!! |

they only come out at night. the daytime is just not their natural habitat.
i watch these guys sometimes when I'm playing a PM TB card at the OTB. i feel sorry for them trying to "handicap" those races with those spiffy programs. lol |

ArlJim, I hear what you are saying, but I can sit at GLD watching these guy lose 90% of their bankroll hoping they can make it to harness time. Hell, when Flamboro comes on at 4, these guys go ape ****. As a guy who considers himself much better than most at harness, Flamboro is unbeatalble. They all know this, but they see harness and they salivate. By the time the Harness comes on at night, they are broke. The irony is they are all just as bad at Harness as they are Runners.
I also need to run a Arlington angle at you. You know more than I do down there. |

you see guys playing the TB's that are trying to hang to a bankroll so that they can play the evening harness?
I see some TB guys that will throw a little at a Dover or Freehold race more just for the action and to pass the time. Then the real harness diehards come in later for the big tracks like the Big M, Woodbine, etc, that really gets them salivating. what about arlington? i'm no expert, not like scav's!! |

I LOVE playing Balmoral and Maywood, it is so comedy, throw in some $200 win wagers on Miller/Manzi/DUBE or Campbell and I am a happy camper....The one thing that drives me nuts about Harness is when they friggin break before the race, broke a computer once because of that.
Forgot Morgan also, one of my heros....Funny story about Morgan... My friend just got his first 4 figure check and he said he would take the whole check and put it on Morgan to place, make a little cash....Morgan is 4/5, got a CLEAR lead coming down the turn, FRIGGIN HORSE BREAKS. I couldn't stop laughing, STILL YELL AT HIM all the time, MORGAN WHAT!!!! I love Morgan, LOVE HIM |

ArlJim, Most of GLD are harness players. Remember the track used to be a harness track from mid 80's til 90's. You should appreciate it, these are the guys supplementing are TB pools all of the time.
I do want to ask about Arlington, but the lady just walked in. No boys, she just wants to cuddle, SHOCKER!!!!!!!!!!! |

Now on to the business at hand Harness racing has to run outside the thoroughbred loop. They are not any where close to the handle generators thoroughbred races are and they have to run when there is next to no other racing going on. They are more in competition with greyhound racing, I would say. For example, there is a harness track up this way, Plainridge Racecourse, and they run three days a week, Monday, Tuesday and Saturday. On Monday and Tuesdays, they run at 4pm. They run at 4pm, because some of the betting options have waned at that time. There are no big tracks running like Belmont, Churchill, Arlington. But more importantly, the lesser tracks that run in place of the biggies on those days are wrapping up, say Philly Park, Calder, Suffolk, etc. That leaves a course like Plainridge with a chance at an increased simulcasting handle. On Saturdays, they are even more extreme, and run at 10am. Obviously, after noon on Saturdays, there are quality wagering options until dark. Apparently, Plainridge's angle is to score early AM gamblers simulcasting OR pick up the "Legs and Eggs" crowd stumbling down Route 1 from the Foxy Lady in Brockton
