Default On The Muscle

I just finished watching the 3 hour documentary on Richard Mandella and friends, "On The Muscle".

I must be claustrophobic. Most of the documentary is filmed very close up. I thought I would get sick. I guess no one wanted to wear a wire and they had to get in close to hear what was being said. I really hated that. There could be two people talking and they would pan back n forth. Mandella's face must've took up 99% of the screen.

The racing wasn't too bad. However it was a real shame they only showed the stretch run on 3 of the 4 BC races Mandella won. Actually I don't think they gave Johar that. It had to be a rights thing for the stretch calls. I wanted to puke as they played some jazzy tune over the call of the race while Pleasantly Perfect was cruising to a win in the Classic.

Somewhere it was said they went to Dubai with this doumentary and all they did was talk about going and they mentioned that Pleasantly Perfect went on to win the Dubai World Cup.

The veterinary aspect of the documentary was satisfactory. They showed a few operations and it makes you wonder how Barbaro can endure all he has.

I guess I'm the kind of person that could get a brand new paint job and all I would see were the places where the paint ran. The close up camera work really wore me out.

on a scale fom 1 to 10

Well I loved it but then agian I have a friend that works for him so I am justalittle bit prejudiced.lol I have a bone to pick with Richard for calling PP fat and lazy, could have given him a complex, he is just big boned. My fav, after PP winning the BC was the race in Ark. I had forgotten how nice of a race it was, it was great watching the people at the barn just crushed he was running so bad and him flying up to win and crush the field. Ok Ok I will stop now.

I'm not critical of the people they chose to film. Just the way they did it.

I think you are talking about Kudos winning at Oaklawn. Yes, he went off 2-1 and they were like.. oh shucks he isn't taking to the track at all. How sad we thought we had something... That was great. It was just the perspective they chose to use.
The use of close ups was really unnerving for me. I also couldn't believe that they played music over the call of the race. Oh, and they made us listen to them singing Me and Bobby McGee well.. it was only for a little while. I guess it could have been worse. They could have sang Kumbaya.

This documentary won an Eclipse?
