Default horse slaughter...illegal in texas?

apparently so...if this is enforced it will mean the shut down of 2 out of the 3 US slaughter plants...which just means more are going to go to mexico for slaughter...but it's a start.

Well with the price of fuel and the relatively low prices Mexico dishes out, the profit is slipping away. I hope this makes the heartless bastards do the right thing and euthanize the old and injured and turn over to rescue the rest. I would rather see a horse euthanized any day than tortured and made to suffer for pure greed.

Of course the challenge of this law is inevitable....

from the El Paso Times:

Horse-slaughtering plants ponder high court appeal
Times wire reports
Article Launched: 01/22/2007 12:29:08 AM MST

DALLAS -- The owners of two horse-slaughtering plants in Texas are contemplating whether to challenge a federal appeals court ruling that upheld a Texas law banning horse slaughter for the purpose of selling the meat for food.

The ruling involves two of the nation's three horse-slaughtering plants -- the Dallas Crown Inc. facility in Kaufman and Beltex Corp. in nearby Fort Worth. A third plant run by Cavel International Inc. in DeKalb, Ill., is not affected by the ruling. All three facilities are foreign-owned.

Former U.S. Rep. Charlie Stenholm, a spokesman for the plants and a coalition of about 200 organizations seeking to preserve the option for humane slaughter of unwanted horses, said Sunday that the companies are considering their options, including the possibility of appealing to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Do you regularly donate funds to these rescue's you want them to go to?Most rescue org's cannot handle the horses they have, and getting even more will be a very troublesome burden, since this EMOTIONAL bill/law authorizes NO funding whatsoever for the rescue's to take on all these horses.WHat needs to be done is for a workable solution to happen with MONEY,not just some political statement saying ban all slaughter.

Good for you!! Most people say they are against horse slaughter but do absolutely nothing to help out the rescue's.Politicians are good at this. They fail to realize a law does no good unless you provide the cash to fund it.
