Default appearance fees??

good idea / bad idea?

from Asian Racing conference::

JOURNALIST Ray Paulick, editor-in-chief of the US weekly the Blood-Horse, urged racecourse delegates at the conference to consider paying appearance money to owners of horses in major international races.

The intention was to satisfy one of the main demands from racing fans, namely for star names they recognised, he said.

Referring to the amount of appearance money being paid in US dollars in another sport, he added: “There are 2.5 million reasons why Tiger Woods will be in Dubai next month.”

Examining the future of international races, Paulick said: “Everyone wants greater competition, a level playing field on such as medication, a wagering opportunity, and safety for horses and humans.”

I think this is a good idea, it could help solve the issue of early retirement (maybe)

I see nothing wrong with them giving out an all exspense paid trip to where ever for the horse and trainer. Makes sense they'd do that for the Breeder's Cup as lobg as the horse is Breeder's Cup foaled and paid. Might get more money for them in the long run to help offset the cost.

When Silent Witnes went to Japan, the JRA covered everything including transport and accommodations for Highlilli - his workout partner.

I think it's a great idea.....
