chatain..
is the perfect horse for the new breeders cup dirt mile. i thought he ran huge today, only 4 career start, first time going longer then a mile, first grade 1, so many things were against and he still ran good just got tired late.if this horse stays sound, which is a big if with this horse, i am sure he will be pointed to the bc dirt mile, and with a good year possibly be the favorite in that race.

it's a long long time til the Breeder's Cup
even if the 1 mile on the dirt is before the genuine biggest day of racing but sure. Chatain is a good miler I thought he was up against it today as well

I couldn't agree with you more. . . He could be dominant at a mile this year as long as it turns out that Discreet Cat can go further and doesn't have to enter mile races. . . The other thing I worry about is his soundness issues. . . He's had very tough back to back races and looked sore to me before the race today. I wouldn't be suprised if he's layed off for a long time. . .

i know its a long time, but if you think about it, besides discreet cat, i dont think there is anyone that can beat chatain at a mile.i am very high on this horse, nothing changed after todays performance

i dont think there is any chance that discreet cat gets pointed to the bcc mile they wont run him for a million when he can run for much more in the classic, thats if discreet cat is even still around, i think he wins the world cup then possibly gets retired.

I think he's probably best suited to a fast paced seven furlong race.

well there is no way he is a 7 furlong horse... he is a miler to maybe a 1 1/8you have to remember today was a huge step up first time long....angel penna in a live interview today was asked why he ran him at a mile first time out last year, and penna said , because he is not a 6 or 7 furlong type of horse, he is a miler. thats what the trainer said, and i would not count him out going 1 to 1 1/8, and i think he will get a month off 2 hard races now in 3 weeks he deserves it, after a month im sure he show up again in ny, in a a stakes race, possibly pointed to the met mile

You'll notice his only bad race that year coming at Philly Park in August, when he and the Guadalupe Preciado trained Wind Drinker, dueled head-to-head through a supersonic 20 4/5th opening quarter mile--both of them were eased. Anyway, Forest Wildcat was a sprinter and throws sprinters. The 2nd dam of Chatain was 4-for-12 sprinting, and 0-for-6 routing. The dam of Chatain was a sprinter/miler, and his first couple of siblings have been confirmed sprinters. I will give him credit for outrunning his pedigree...when he won the one-turn mile stake on opening weekend at GP, holding off a late charge by Sir Greeley. He clearly has outrun his pedigree. HOWEVER.....I believe you will see the best from him, at seven furlongs. He rates very kindly, and would be very tough against anybody at that distance, with a pace setup. I could be wrong though..... |

i know who is sire was, and i am just going on what angel penna said and what i saw in the hals hope, i saw a perfect miler, lots of tactical speed and lots of heart. going 1:33 and change 4 start lifetime is a huge performance.

also... forest wildcat was by storm cat... so going 1 mile up to even 1 1/8 should not be a problem

Keyed enty just needs to find out if he is a miler or stay with sprinting. Either way he should make the starting gat for the BC.

I agree with you that pedigrees don't always translate.... However, just because a trainer thinks a horse is best suited to a particular distance...doesn't always mean they are...and I think you'll agree with that as well. Sir Greeley, who's a confirmed sprinter/miler type, just missed running him down in the late stages of that mile race....I'd love to see this horse going 7/8ths, with a setup in front of him. |

Sun King will be a handful in the dirt mile, assuming he makes it. You know that race is going to have some serious pace every year.
