Default 2/10: Stakes Roundup/Magna 5

Big slate of action Saturday with Fair Grounds the center of multi-stake card; SA featuring Gr. I's for gals; Magna 5 intrigue and more.. Fun Friday at Aqueduct where despite an early P6 carryover exit, the day was lucrative off a modest P4 hit ($170) and a mammouth $2,000+ ($1) superfecta available with the 2nd choice winning and the next three following.. Hope you did well..

SELECTIONS -- MAGNA 5 (LRL, GP, SA, GG)

LRL 9th (4:40pm): 14th Wide Country, 3yo-F, 1m (Super, Magna "A")

1. #9 Laila's Punch 2-1: Gaudet savvy as they get; Lost some time in Jan..
2. #1 Bedside Story 5-2: Dutrow hitting at 50% with MD visits..
A. #4 Wow Me Free 8-1: Hated NY trip, but a fit back home and one-turning..
B. #6 Paying Off 6-1: Grey 7/1-2-3 at LRL; Missed 'Story' last..

GP 8th (4:53pm): CLM, 4+, 8.5f-T (Super, DD, P3, Magna "B")

1. #11 Omaggio 3-1: Ready according to Catalano on ATRAB Friday..
2. #4 Stormy Roman 6-1: Obvious contender but never faces camera..
A. #10 Big Luck 12-1: Nice price and looks the part but pilot a minus..
B. #9 I'mroyallymecke'd 20-1: Hates GP, never wins, weak connections.. What's not to like?

SA 4th (5:02pm): CLM, 4yo-F, 6f (DD, P3, .10 Super, Magna "C")

1. #1 Red Neck Gal 4-1: Best yet last when returned to main..
2. #7 Wickersham 5-2: Well behind top tab when they last met..
A. #2 Bright Red State 10-1: Takes sneaky drop from 4+ to 4 only..
B. #3 Tyrolean Empress 6-1: Coming back to good effort..

GG 4th (5:16pm): 51st Cal Oaks, 3yo-F, 8.5f (Magna "D")

1. #4 Glorification 2-1
2. #1 SCRATCHED

3x4x3x1x2 = 72 x $2 = $144

GULFSTREAM

7th: 25th Old Hat (Gr. III), 3yo-F, 6.5f (DD, P3, P4, Super)

1. #4 Dreaming of Anna 4-5: Crazy to eat 4-5 or less on comeback.. 3rd
1. #6 You Asked 8-1: With one below the obvious anti-speed choices.. 2nd
3. #2 Splendid in Spring 15-1: Good chance to hit board on cutback.. 4th

COMMENTS: Dream Rush sets ridiculous pace and doesn't stop.. Hard to know if it's GP or the filly.. Idea of trying to beat Anna correct though, as she looked short.. Good effort by You Asked doing what was expected, but bad mistake by me not considering a wire job by Dream Rush..

8th/9th: See above..

1. #1 Ballet Fever 6-1
2. #5 Patriotic American 3-1

1. #1 Summer Doldrums 5-2: Chased quality as juvy; Ran monster last.. WON @ 7-2
2. #2 Lawrence the Roman 6-5: Will be overbet, won't get lead; Bounce candidate.. 5th
3. #4 Sir Whimsey 8-1: Against re-emerging rail bias, but 'right' horse underneath.. 2nd

$1 EX: $31.25

Hard to be more right about a scenario than this race.. Lawrence flat as Doldrums proves to be real NY-based Derby horse here.. Excellent effort from the solid Sir Whimsey to turn this from a 'no bet' proposition into a nice 5-1 exacta return..

TAMPA BAY

10th: 17th Super, 4+, 7f (Superfecta)

1. #4 Yes Yes Yes 4-1: Nice to see at least one Team Todd elder horse..

B. #1 Sandburr 6-1: TX bred aced prep besting Jonesboro, 'Act'.. 4th

$1 EX: $22.20

COMMENTS: Master Command justifies the 3-5 price with Patriot Act continuing a solid stretch of form.. Top choice Welcome Again loomed 3 wide into turn but faded..

7th: FG BCH (Gr. III), 4+, 9f-T (P3, Super)

1. #3 Cloudy's Knight 8-1: 7yo third off break and priced right.. WON @ 6-1
2. #4 Fort Prado 3-1: Serious racehorse NEVER runs a bad one..

B. #4 Izzie's Halo 8-1: LeComte runner up (Hard Spun) has home field edge.. 4th

LONGSHOT/EXOTICS ADD: #9 Spankey Came Home 30-1: Crazy colt could be anything after bizarre ALW try at SA..

$1 EX: $40.30

<$75 P4 Play:

6: 5-7
7: 3-4
8: 2-3-6 $1 P3 $49.10

Steve, if you don't mind me asking, why did you leave out Dream Rush in GP's 7th, and do you have any opinion on my choice in the 10th, the dirt to turf Victory Blue? Your choice Ballet Fever is solid, I just hate playing horses claimed from Pletcher.

I'm hoping the horses that are attending the pace are going to cook themselves including Dream Rush, and am strictly looking to get some value in this. I figure 'Anna' is the most likely winner anyway, though at least a tad vulnerable at the trip and coming off the break, so why not put the best prices with her that you think have a shot given the scenario? I was there when Dream Rush got beat, and was actually with Shawn Musgrave who made it clear that his filly had quality and could win, and think Dream Rush may not be that terrific.

Alan Goldberg (You Asked) is one of the wisest wise guys around, and Guidry seems to come up big in spots like this all the time. I had her on top when I first wrote this up, and then swapped her with Anna... And horses exiting any races against Outofthebox's Golden Dreamer have been coming back to win left and right. In a short field with speed, You Asked is the right horse with the right style in the right post at the right price...

(Have to go back and look at the 10th to answer part two of the question...)

G,

Victory Blue is fast enough in that 10th, but Victory Gallop's don't turf all that great (8 for 102 First Turf), and Oliveres is riding an 0 for 31 run with First Time Turfers on top of that...

As for being claimed from Team Todd, Spatz actually improved Ballet Fever quite a bit already, and that one hole this trip/course is advantageous. Good race to end good card...

SB, DO NOT GET SUCKED INTO OMAGGIO. I am telling you, he is always 'ready'. That friggin horse has cost me so much friggin money on the end of pick threes....UGHHHHHHHHH

On a more positive note, if we could get 'late' jock switch on ImRoyallymecked, which is possible becuase someone will tell the trainer that he has a HUGE shot if he throws a nut jock on, he has the number power to get there, nice find byk

Because I like action

02/10/07 LRL 9 $12 Pick-5 1 / 4-6,9-11 / 1 / 4 / 2 ------ Cancel

I actually like the singles I have quite abit, only horse that I caution on is the 4 at Golden gate, but I feel solid on those legs, and then the Omaggio race, if he wins, I will win the ticket, given how he never wins for me

Intended more or less... I think the 2 is very much the likliest winner.. Want to protect in the big ticket Magna with Mott's 8, but in the smaller ticket am protecting with the 4.. May end up using both myself in my bets, or I may single 2 on a main ticket and cover with lighter ones with the 4 & 8...

Steve, nice job putting Summer Doldrums on top. The NY bred wants to stick with state breds.
