Default You've GOT to be Kidding Me....i.e. Lawrence the Roman

Either Lawrence Roman is the most generous man in the world ( I don't know him....perhaps he is ) or there's a LOT more to this story.

I'm just curious....can those foolish enough to bet him also get their money back? I mean, his performance didn't turn out to be all they expected either.

The whole story will be out and about relatively shortly. Whether it is on the record or not.

From what I can gather he's just a stand-up kind of guy that wasn't comfortable letting others feel that they were duped.

Not the kind of story you hear of very often.

I also like the suggestion that he buy back losing tickets from bettors who after the race had second thoughts about what they had purchased.

Look, if you're in this business to sell horses, you want people to do well, as then they will be repeat customers. However, horse racing is nothing if not a " buyer beware " game, and that goes for horse buyers and bettors alike.

As I said before, the original owner must be a terrific guy, but I just can't help but feel there is at least a LITTLE more to this story. Perhaps they had an out if he ran poorly with the understanding that they were also paying a far greater sum if he won impressively. For example, say they paid $500K for 50%, I have no idea what was paid, but would have given them $1 million if he ran a Beyer figure of over 105. I doubt this is close to the deal but I am just making an example.

He's a retired plumbing contractor.

He bred the horse and has already bought it back once.

Amusing story (half-way down the page):

Default lawrence the roman/ ieah

There has been nothing but speculation surrounding this deal. Here is what really went on. First off, i am qualified as i am a close friend of mike iavarone. the horse was done on a last minute deal reccommended by dutrow. They were rushed into the deal because another buyer pulled out that morning. They did not get the chance to ultrasound his right front tendon as there may have been issues. They deal included escape clauses post race that were gladly agreed upon by both sides. It was a straight forward deal that both sides walked away feeling every bit the same about each other. There is avery good chance that the colt has an issue but under no circumstances will they tell anyone they dont have too

Or......

Perhaps the horse was just a fraud who fell into one sweet trip after another and was finally exposed on Saturday....

Nah, the fact that the colt had front wraps on was alarming.
