I worked for him for a long weekend when he was shipping in to Saratoga at the stakes barn with Asher (who ran in the Spinaway and ran 5th or 6th in the BC Juvi Fillies in 1999). He is a great guy who works hard. Caught up with him again last year in Keeneland. Always a class act. I wish him the best!

I bought a horse off of him for a client named Monocular back in 2004. he won a few races here in NY for Dutrow. he called me this winter and said he had a new client and remembered dealing with me when I bought Monoc off him and asked me to please try and find some horse for him to buy. We talked all winter, and I got him one in April. I knew what station he was at and how important it was that he fire with one and not get a bad one. He ran the horse back and it finished WAY back. The farthest back of any horse I ever bought for somone. I was physically nauseous and 2nd guessed myself and basically felt like i had really hurt the guy. I was really upset. Lo and behold he wins the Foster for the same owner!!! the guy who bought the horse I sold him. Thats why I said I felt better than anyone alive when he won except him. I called him the next morning to congratulate him and apologize for the buy we made. he said not to worry, that the horse I bought him had a splint problem that had been corrected and that he still thought he was the best horse in his barn, lol. he said not to worry and that one day he would be calling me and thanking me after he won a stakes race with him. he never got upset or yelled after the bad race even though at the time every buy meant life or death. That my friends is class and courage personified. Its a grand thing when people like that actually get rewarded. And I certainly hope more than anyone that he goes forward and does even more. |

When I started with one of my current trainers back in the 1980s, he only had 13 horses. He didn't have many starters but his win percentage was pretty much always over 20%. Win percenatge obviously does not tell the whole story but to me it is the most important statistic there is. If a guy is winning at better than a 20% clip, he is obviously doing something right. If a guy is winning at under a 10% clip, he is obviously doing soemthing wrong. |

Look at his dazzling % in the money and in wins at the CD meet. Those horses he is kicking ass with were claimed or purchased by Ron in the interim. Take a look. I know you wouldnt know that unless someone told you, but now someone has, lol. |
