the writing's been on the wall for a long time but for someone like me that grew up reading jim murray in the times, this is still a bit jaw dropping.
Jim Murray in the Times, John Hall in O.C.Register, Malumud in Examiner...true greats of the past. The SG Valley Tribune had a good column from Art Wilson on occasion, but what are ya gonna do?

I left SoCal for Maine to escape the demise of good horse racing coverage in the LA area.

The Philadelphia Inquirer has been steadily cutting back column inches on racing news for some time. Then, they decided to trim the daily picks (the Inky used to publish picks for PHA and DEL). Now, the paper's regular handicapper, Craig Donnelly, has retired, and it appear there will be no replacement. Let's face it, print coverage of horseracing has become obsolete.
